Total Eclipse
The total solar eclipse on July 22, 2009 was a big event for China. It was the longest (more than 6 minutes) total eclipse during the 21st century and not to be surpassed until June 2132. The eclipse cities included Chengdu, Chongqing, Yichang, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Suzhou and Shanghai. Unfortunately many cities along the coast were in heavy rain that day. It was totally invisible in Shanghai. These pictures were taken in Jiaxing, supposed was one of the best places to view the eclipse. It started raining around 8:00am and fortunately stopped around 8:30am. But the thick clouds had blocked the sun. Anticipating for the sun to come out was a highlight on that day.
