The nature is faithful to us: giving us ample resources and engergies to substain our life quality. But are we faithful to the nature?

  • A receding glacier

In 40 years, this glacier has been receded by more than 10,000 sq meters. These days, it is shrinking in a faster speed.

  • Glacier is deep blue, as it appears on the bottom right corner of this photo. However, most often it appears dark....a result of pushing the soils along the way when it moves.

  • A muddy glacier...it looks black and white in reality. In fact the mud preserves the glaciers from decaying by the salty sea water by blocking them from pushing to the ocean.

  • When glaciers move, they cut through the mountains. But where are the glaciers? Once been there and now have gone.

  • There are many glaciers in Alaska, but they are melting and eventually will disappear.

  • Mountains surrounded by clouds

There are a lot of rainfalls in Alaska. The clouds are generally low and just above the sea level. It is interesting to see in this photo the change in hue above and below the cloud.

  • Alaska does rain a lot. The locals say either it snows or it rains. Generally it is covered with thick clouds. I must say that I was very lucky to have half of my trip in blue skies.

  • Alaska is well known for glaciers extending to the ocean. However, for these reasons, these glaciers are being eaten up by the salty sea water. Whenever you hear the thunder roars, a piece of the glacier iceberg is falling down to the ocean. Piece by piece, the glaciers are disappearing.

  • This seal used a piece of floating iceberg to sail along the current created by the falling glacier icebergs.

Spotting this small creature (it did look small from the 14th deck of a cruise ship) is just by luck – while other people on the ship were concentrating on the glaciers, I looked down and spotted something moving on the iceberg. I alerted people surrounding me and snapped this shot. The icebery has the shape of a whale.
